Genie came to join our family today.

Kinja'd!!!

Outside my house this evening because I forgot to bring the garage clicker. She’s decked out in “Formal Blue”.

The more attentive readers will notice that Genie is not, in fact, a convertible. Yes, that’s right. The Great Convertible Hunt of 2017 ended with. . .

a sedan.

A Kia K900 to be specific. I nabbed this baby for $26K with a CPO one year “platinum” warranty and 10 year, 100,000 miles powertrain warranty (of which I am given to understand 55k has been used by the original lessee. This car first entered service at Huffiness Kia of McKinney, had all of its service there (I have a copy of its entire service history), and was returned there after 2 years and 2 months. It got 55k miles on it in that time because the previous driver had family in El Paso that he visited often. I know this because I chatted with the salesman who originally did that deal.

Kinja'd!!!

I couldn’t pass up the gorgeous two-tone leather interior. How I’ll keep it clean I have no idea. The blankets in the passengers seat were what I used to protect the upholstery from my chair. You can see the temporary portable hand controls on the pedals. I need to get the permanent ones installed.

So how did this happen? I just couldn’t find the convertible that fit my needs as an only car right now, and was still fairly new. So, I sacrificed driving engagement for a different kind of fun. I had 13 good years with my RX-8, now I get to enjoy luxury for a few years. But, I may eventually get a convertible to play with on weekends, when I can afford it (read, when the wife’s van is paid off). Boxer_4 put it into my head that RX-7 ‘verts are plentiful, and now I’m keeping an eye out for them.

Congrats! Funny how we often often set out looking for one thing and come home with something completely antithetical.

Thanks! So true. It was a far more interesting and complicated journey than I’d expected or wanted, honestly.

I opened the sunroof. It did nothing for me.

Wow, you do have a great memory for Toyotas. That’s my Mom’s ‘92. The odometer has turned over a couple of times, and it shakes violently over 60 mph, but my dad keeps it running, and I love it. I get to drive it when I visit.

Thought you might approve. Get yourself to Dallas sometime, and you can have a turn at the wheel.

Leave the chipmunks at home, please.

Was your RX-8 an automatic or did you have hand controls for the clutch as well as the gas/brake? I’m just curious.

Auto. There are systems that would let me hand operate a clutch, but they are expensive, don’t make it more fun, but so make it more complicated. I did have paddles for manual mode, but I only used it a couple times.

Oh this is awesome. That level of luxury for 26k plus a warranty is unparalleled. I personally think you should throw some Flowmasters on it and let it ROAR haha.

Any burn outs yet?

I absolutely love the headlights.

Oh and 2 kids (5 and 1) in my backseat mean I can’t get that color leather in anything haha

I’m finding it’s disconcertingly easy to slide the back end with those OEM all seasons and 420 hp. It’s more than twice what I’ve ever had before.

The headlights are directional LEDs. Very nice on rural curved roads.

I see your two kids and raise you two wheelchair tires. No wait, kids are more destructive at that age. I put a sheet on the back seat to protect it from the wheels, and I’m finding that a few baby wipes gets rid of whatever gets on the seats and dash. My daughter’s footprints usually end up on the white dash panel. It was too gorgeous not to buy it anyway.

That sounds fun lol. It’s about 200 more than I’ve had in a daily driver before. My old Ford 5.0 V8's have probably never even been over 300. I dig that it’s a 5.0L too.

Oh I know they are and I’m quite jealous of them.

I’d say two kids 5 and under are probably the most destructive force on the planet, aside from MORE kids 5 and under anyhow.

Awesome! How are you likes Jessica Jones so far? I didn’t lead you astray did I?

My sister has a minivan with enough food crumbs from her boys under the seats to, I am certain, fill a food bank at Thanksgiving. Ugh.

JJ is good. It started with plenty of that old private dick movie patina that made me chuckle. I almost expected her to narrate, “It was a dark and stormy night”. I like the character, and she’s acted well, even though she does an excessive amount of going off half-cocked. There are moments that truly creep me out, which is a good thing. David Tenant is good, but he doesn’t quite get my spine shivering. I think it’s because I’ll always remember him as Dr. Who, but that’s not his fault.

I’ve seen Luke Cage in this and The Defenders now, and I’m probably not going to watch his series any time soon. He’s just not that interesting to me.

All in all, I’m enjoying this gritty, street-level Marvel much more than the spandex-wearing, shiny super hero stuff they’re doing in the movies.
